For my sister and me, Catonia (from the Hebrew word <em>qaton<\/em>, &#8220;small&#8221;) was a tiny kingdom, based on our rural Michigan property, that represented agrarian values, justice, and peace. This blog is primarily about envisioning a Christianity that is less toxic to humanity. Everything that I write is more or less directly influenced by him.  <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Kierkegaard<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>My other nineteenth-century muse is Kierkegaard. This blog explores the intersection of his thought with George MacDonald&#8217;s, especially in his quest to hold his face to what Life requires of us.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Being a Teacher<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I teach math in a small-town high school. The effort to face my own self doubt in that role, and to help my students face theirs, influences my writing.
